Care Guide

Care Guide

Your Everlight Jewels piece is crafted to last a lifetime — and with the right care, it will.

Gold Jewelry Care

Whether your piece is Rose Gold, White Gold, or Yellow Gold, gold jewelry is both resilient and sensitive to the elements. A little mindfulness goes a long way.

Cleaning

  • Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm (not hot) water in a small bowl.
  • Gently scrub your piece with a soft-bristled brush — a baby toothbrush works beautifully.
  • Rinse thoroughly under lukewarm running water and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
  • For White Gold pieces, avoid abrasive cloths that can wear down the rhodium plating over time.

Storage

  • Store each piece individually in a soft pouch or a lined jewelry box to prevent scratching.
  • Keep gold jewelry away from direct sunlight and humidity — a cool, dry place is ideal.
  • Avoid storing multiple pieces loose together; chains tangle and metals scratch one another.

Chemicals & Everyday Exposure

  • Remove before swimming — chlorine in pools and salt in seawater can degrade gold alloys and dull the finish.
  • Remove before applying perfume, hairspray, lotions, or sunscreen. Let products absorb fully before wearing your jewelry.
  • Remove during household chores — cleaning agents, bleach, and detergents are particularly harsh on gold.
  • Put your jewelry on last when getting ready, and take it off first when you return home.

Diamond Jewelry Care

Diamonds are the hardest natural substance on earth — but that doesn't mean they're invincible. Proper care preserves their brilliance and protects their settings.

Cleaning

  • Use the same warm soapy water method as above. Diamonds attract grease, so regular cleaning is key to maintaining their sparkle.
  • Pay special attention to the underside of the stone — this is where oils and residue accumulate most.
  • Avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home unless your jeweller has confirmed the setting is secure enough to withstand vibration.
  • Never use bleach, acetone, or abrasive cleaners on diamond jewelry.

Protecting from Scratches & Impact

  • While diamonds resist scratching, they can chip if struck at the right angle — particularly at the girdle (the widest edge).
  • Remove diamond jewelry before any physical activity, gym sessions, or manual work.
  • Store diamond pieces separately, as they can scratch other gemstones and metals.

Lab-Grown Diamonds

Everlight Jewels proudly features lab-grown diamonds — stones that are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds. They share the same crystal structure, the same hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), and the same breathtaking brilliance.

Durability

  • Lab-grown diamonds are just as hard and durable as natural diamonds — there is no difference in wearability or longevity.
  • They respond identically to cleaning, heat, and everyday wear.
  • The same care guidelines that apply to natural diamonds apply fully to lab-grown diamonds.

A Conscious Choice

Choosing a lab-grown diamond means choosing a stone of exceptional quality with a lighter environmental footprint — without compromise on beauty or durability. Your piece will endure just as long, shine just as bright, and carry just as much meaning.

General Jewelry Maintenance Tips

  • Inspect settings regularly. Check prongs and bezels periodically for any looseness. A stone that moves slightly in its setting should be seen by a jeweller promptly.
  • Clean gently and often. A quick clean every two to four weeks keeps buildup from dulling your piece's brilliance.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures. Sudden temperature changes can stress metal and loosen settings.
  • Handle with care. Always hold rings by the band, not the stone, and clasps by the clasp — not the chain.
  • Travel smart. Use a dedicated travel jewelry case with individual compartments. Never pack jewelry loose in a bag.
  • Remove during sleep. Chains can tangle and break, and prongs can catch on fabric while you sleep.

When to Seek Professional Servicing

Even the most carefully maintained jewelry benefits from professional attention. We recommend visiting a trusted jeweller if you notice any of the following:

  • A stone appears loose, shifted, or is missing entirely.
  • Prongs look bent, worn, or flattened.
  • The clasp on a necklace or bracelet no longer closes securely.
  • White Gold pieces have lost their bright finish — this is a sign the rhodium plating needs refreshing, a quick and routine service.
  • The piece has suffered a knock or impact, even if no visible damage is apparent.
  • You notice discolouration, tarnishing, or unusual dullness that cleaning does not resolve.

As a general rule, we recommend a professional inspection once a year — think of it as an annual wellness check for your jewelry.
